Terry Sametz

Bronze Age Faith (Trypilljan Pysanki)
The artist:
Terry Sametz is an exciting experimental artist who uses non-traditional methods, materials and techniques in his colourful and utterly delightful works. His art is sometimes figurative, sometimes abstract, sometimes amusing, sometimes contemplative, and always unique. Terry builds on many trade and guild techniques learned as a painting and decorating contractor. With his special flare he blends painting, multi media experimental digital and film photography, collage, Italian decorative plaster, carving, as well as found objects into a style that is his alone. One process can contain four or five stages, starting with an original artwork or original photo.
His two-dimensional sculpted mixed media work, Vanniluxious, is a brilliant example of his talent. The painting hangs against a wall but draws all eyes as it engages the viewer with its texture, carved designs and vivid colours. Terry’s sense of humour combined the names Valhalla/Nirvana
and Luxurious to form the title.
Terry’s entire early body of work was destroyed when a tornado struck his cottage in 1992, causing him to turn away from his art for several years and very different ideas. What do they say about ill winds? and then come back to it with vital energy
Terry is currently President Ottawa’s Foyer Gallery Artists’ Association. This unique gallery exhibits work by its 30 juried members in media ranging from acrylics, watercolour, oils, fibre art and ceramics and of course, Terry’s hybrid art/sculptural works. The gallery is proud of hosting the City of Ottawa’s annual Young at Art Show, Canada’s first big-city-wide visual exhibition for emerging teenage artists.
Terry was recently profiled and his artwork featured in a National Magazine, “Parkhurst Exchange’.
In addition his work has been shown on OMNI TV, CBC Evening News with Rita Celli and the Rogers TV program ‘Daytime’.
In the past two years Terry has been a featured artist in a national show for artists of Ukrainian heritage in Oakville Ontario.
Terry has traveled the world extensively, always with a camera in hand, lived and worked in Australia, Greece, Indonesia and England and those adventures and travels have influenced his artwork.
Terry Sametz’s work has been shown privately, and to great acclaim, in Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Niagara Falls, and Northern Virginia, and his artwork and commissioned works hang in homes and businesses in Ottawa, Richmond Hill, Ontario, Regina, Saskatchewan, and Calgary, Alberta, Park City, Utah, Great Falls and Herndon, Virginia, New York City, Rutland, Vermont, and Norwell, Massachusetts.

Artist Creed:
“First and foremost, I believe Art is an idea – a thought, concept emotion or philosophy. As an artist I try to communicate those ideas with a sense of passion, and hope they inspire the viewer
