MaryAnn Camps

After working for more than 20 years as a freelance graphic designer, MaryAnn returned to her first love: painting and drawing. MaryAnn is a member of The Foyer Gallery, Ottawa Mixed Media Artists (OMMA) and GalleryNora.com. She takes part in exhibitions at The Cube Gallery in Ottawa. As well, she has exhibited her work in OMMA juried shows in Ottawa, in Gallery Nora shows at the Papermill Gallery in Toronto, as part of the Stittsville Artists Studio Tour, and at various restaurants in Ottawa, including Johnny Farina’s. MaryAnn’s work is part of private collections in Ottawa, Toronto, the Kingston area and Switzerland.

MaryAnn works mainly in acrylic, and sometimes mixed media, on canvas.

“I am inspired by the abstract beauty of natural forms, by the colours and patterns I see as I listen to music and by the light that shines through it all. I enjoy the intense experience of trying to express something I can sense but can’t quite see or hear. I apply paint in a free and expressive way on textured surfaces to achieve an organic quality to my work. Instead of being in rigid control, I like to work in concert with the painting, rather like working with nature in a garden.”
