Dhanashri Athavale

Originally from Pune, India and now residing in Ottawa, Dhanashri Athavale is a new emerging artist on Ottawa’s art scene. She has always shown a keen interest in art and painting right from her childhood. She got her Applied Arts degree from Abhinav Kala Academy and worked as a freelance designer in India before focusing on Fine Arts.

Dhanashri has been painting primarily in the medium of watercolours. She believes that the versatility of this medium helps capture her perception of nature. She is mesmerized by the beauty and elegance in nature and constantly inspired by its various forms, patterns, shapes and colours. Her paintings speak for themselves as they portray this grace of nature with its delicate nuances. Her painting style has been constantly evolving by the experiments and the various techniques she tries but the focus remains on the combination of positive and negative painting style along with some rich colourschemes.

As a professional artist, Dhanashri has participated in several group shows. She also has four successful solo shows to her credit. She is an active member of many local art societies like Nepean Fine Arts League, Ottawa Watercolour Society and Ottawa Art Association. She regularly exhibits her work in Parkdale Gallery, Galerie Old Chelsea and Foyer Gallery. Her paintings are in many private collections and in some corporate houses in India, U.K., U.S. and Canada. Recently, she has started offering private art lessons to all the age groups.

She continues to learn and expand her horizons as she studies a Canadian landscape – one that offers a variety from spring blossoms to winter blues. Her journey of creation marches ahead as she paints many more beautiful landscapes fulfilling her passion and giving pleasure to viewer’s eyes.
