June Harman

Born and raised in Vancouver, I had a 10 year career as a graphic artist, illustrator and art director on the west coast. In 1995 I left the commercial field to become a fine artist. In 2000 I began showing my work in Vancouver. In 2014 we moved to Ottawa.

I’m a signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (artists.ca).

For 25 years I’ve been a dance leader and caller. Working with live musicians, playing traditional music, I bring the joy of dance to people of all ages and abilities. These experiences become subjects for my art.

Artist Statement:

I’m most interested in the human figure. Musicians and dancers are often my subjects. I also work from life models, interpreting their poses into characters from mythology and literature.

A linking factor in everything I create is the use of patterning; obvious or subtle, it is always there. Sometimes the patterning is about the music being played or danced to, and sometimes it expresses a state of mind, but it is always present as an energy that runs through the work.
