Jay Anderson

VERVE at Chez Lucien - February,  2006

Jay Anderson’s work has evolved dramatically since her start in 1999 as a watercolour artist.
She has constantly explored and experimented with various media and subject matter with her usual passion and enthusiasm. Attending many courses, classes and workshops here in Canada and the United States, Jay has matured and become a confident and passionate artist. This has led to her more recent endeavors as a teacher and mentor to other emerging artists.

She has studied at the Ottawa School of Art, St. Lawrence College, and Springmaid Beach School in Myrtle Beach, USA. She has also studied with local artists, David W. Jones, Mary Nunn, and Marg Grothier; and international artists, Carla O’Connor, Arne Westerman, Alex Powers, and Skip Lawrence. All of these people have inspired and energized Jay and helped her grow into the artist you see today. Her work varies in style, colour, and technique because she allows the subject matter to influence her approach to the work. Jay’s ability to express herself through shape making and strong design is evident in her newer works in acrylic and mixed media.

Jay is an active member of the Ottawa Art Association, the Manotick Art Association (see Jay’s paintings at www.manotickart.ca), and the Ottawa Mixed Media Association. Recently Jay won 1st prize in the acrlyics category for her work ‘Coffee at Dunns’ at the Ottawa Art Association’s Fall Awards Show in 2005.  More recently she has appeared on Rogers TV in February 2006 to showcase her work and upcoming first solo show at Chez Lucien in Ottawa.
