Artist Statement
Linda’s day job as an Episcopal priest means that she is often aware of the complex layers of human life. Since her spiritual work with others is long term, she enjoys making art, having something to complete which has engaged her imagination and her spirit. She is a printmaker who is happy to explore mixed media and even sculptural forms when she is not working at a press. Her work may be realistic or more abstract but is always layered with meaning.
She strongly believes that art is a spiritual practice, that creativity and imagination have much to offer people and systems. She has taught in museum and church settings with an eye for insight and reflection. She incorporates art images as a part of her retreat work and delights in sharing her knowledge of techniques and practices. She is especially pleased when her students overcome a fear of art or the internal critic.
She has been the initiator of several special projects for communities and is happy that her previous parish in Massachusetts still operates an art studio in its basement, a basis for her recent doctoral work and teaching components at Harvard Divinity School and at Episcopal Divinity School, both in Cambridge, Ma. She has an article for a Jan., 2007, publication in the
She has traveled extensively and during a recent sabbatical spent time in concentrated art study; she has also studied graphic design. She has been included in numerous juried shows and is happy that so many people have purchased her art and have commissioned pieces. I see the artist as contemporary shaman, a steward of mystery.
