Margaret Dunsmore
![]() |
Margaret Dunsmore's first quilts were traditional pieced designs, but she soon discovered the design freedom offered by hand applique. She now sees quilting as a medium for artistic expression, not simply as a traditional handcraft – a medium that can engage the viewer on intellectual, emotional and spiritual, as well as aesthetic levels.
Her innovative quilt designs have been recognized both nationally and internationally through acceptance into major juried shows in Canada , the United States and Australia ; by numerous awards; by publication of her work in books and magazines; and through juried membership in the Foyer Gallery Artists’ Association.
Margaret is best known for her representational wall hangings depicting either birds in flight, or realistic images of people. However, she is also branching out into other fibre arts mediums. The themes in her work usually pertain to our relationships to family, friends, community and the natural world.
