10 Years, 100 Exhibits, 1,000,044th Birthday of Art
An Ottawa first at the Foyer GalleryFor the first time ever, artists in Ottawa are celebrating the worldwide Birthday of Art on January 21.
The public is invited to celebrate the 1,000,044th birthday of art at the Foyer Gallery (Nepean Sportsplex, entrance one at) on Sunday, January 21 from noon to 4 o’clock. There will be mural painting for children and a contest for the best birthday hat, as well as birthday cake and juice. Foyer Gallery artists will be on hand to show off their art and to celebrate the gallery’s 10th birthday as well. “Art's Birthday" is an annual event first proposed in 1963 by French artist Robert Filliou. He was part of the FLUXUS group whose motto was "Art into Life; Art in peoples lives." (Fluxus members included Andy Warhol, Yoko Ono, and Joseph Beuys…Their concept was to make art more widely accessible to the public). What better way than to celebrate at the Foyer, a non-profit artist-run co-operative? It showcases professional-quality affordable art in a great variety of media: oils, acrylics, watercolours, ceramics, wood, fabric, photography, mixed media, and more… With the current show at the Foyer entitled “Colour Full,” this event ought to brighten up your January.
