Lauren’s paintings in oil and mixed media are influenced by the simplified, holistic forms of indigenous art, and by the landscapes of northern Ontario. She grew up on Manitoulin Island and returns frequently to the north, especially to her family’s camp near Thunder Bay. She has explored and painted many of the same vistas captured by the amazing Group of 7 artists.  She also finds inspiration along the bike paths and ski trails of the Ottawa region where she resides.

She holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Toronto, studied Visual Art at York University and Illustration at Sheridan College. She has taken courses at the Ontario College of Art and the Ottawa School of Art, and with various professional artists. After years of working in the printing/publishing industry, she now paints full-time, and has exhibited professionally since 2005.

Lauren believes that art is about connection.

My artistic quest, by making use of bold forms, strong lines, layered applications of paint, and vibrant colours to interpret my subject, is to seek and portray our connection to spirit in nature”.
