Yves Jardon

I am a photographer artist inspired by nature. I include everything in my vision of nature: from the macro view of a landscape to the micro view of a tiny insect. And I include human nature in my vision of the world. I am eclectic in my approach to photography because I’m inspired by so many different things.

To make a long story short, I was born in the Congo and raised in Belgium and Canada. I wasn’t good at school looking out the window and not listening to the teacher. The first thing I did as an adult was to buy a farm in the back country where I was a farmer for 10 years. Then at the age of 35, I started studying and completed a degree in physical geography. From a biogeography perspective, I finished a masters on the history of larch sawfly outbreaks in northern Québec and a Ph.D. on the history of spruce budworm outbreaks in the whole of Quebec during the past 200 years, using a spatio-temporal approach.

I carried a camera with me all these years in the woods, taking pictures of nature and landscapes when I was not sampling trees and plants. My interests shifted to portrait and model photography when I moved to Ottawa for my work. Model photography including nudes has taken all of my energy over the past 15 years. I have learned a lot on lightning and composition and I have never stopped learning about photography and creativity. I try to capture a mood or a feeling, I try to tell a story or an idea. Photography is more than just taking a picture.

I have won prizes and awards in various competitions. In the Ottawa area, I have participated in several exhibitions and have been a member of the Foyer Gallery since January 2014.
