Born and raised in Vancouver, I had a 10 year career as a graphic artist, illustrator and art director on the west coast. In 1995 I left the commercial field to become a fine artist. In 2000 I began showing my work in Vancouver. In 2014 we moved to Ottawa.
I’m a signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (artists.ca).For 25 years I’ve been a dance leader and caller. Working with live musicians, playing traditional music, I bring the joy of dance to people of all ages and abilities. These experiences become subjects for my art.
Artist Statement
I’m most interested in the human figure. Musicians and dancers are often my subjects. I also work from life models, interpreting their poses into characters from mythology and literature.
A linking factor in everything I create is the use of patterning; obvious or subtle, it is always there. Sometimes the patterning is about the music being played or danced to, and sometimes it expresses a state of mind, but it is always present as an energy that runs through the work.
