I was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario. Although I was drawn to art at a young age, I elected to pursue a career in computers and high tech. After finishing a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Mathematics from Waterloo with a Minor in Fine Art, in 1994 my husband and I moved to Ottawa to work in the high tech industry and start a family. We currently live in Ottawa and have 2 children in their 20’s attending college and university.
I kept up my art sporadically over the years by attending local classes and working on portraiture and landscapes in watercolour and acrylics. I was always drawn to figure drawing and painting and as I attended ballet, modern and jazz classes from age 7 to age 40, I use my knowledge of anatomy and physical expression in my work as much as I can. In addition, I have used many of the places I have travelled to as landscape subjects include the Canadian wilderness. I have also done numerous commissions for people of their favourite furry family members.
One common theme throughout my work is the composition. I am always amazed at how small changes in things such as aspect ratio, negative space and positioning of the subjects can energize a piece of art or just give you that feeling of “ahhhhh”. I thoroughly enjoy working with all of my compositions to pull the viewer into the piece and accentuate the mood I am trying to convey.
